Your Dog's PAcking List

Hello Wild Blue Dog Campers!

I’m sending suggested packing lists for you to work with.

For Your Dog:

Lake Tahoe does not have venomous snakes, ticks, or heartworm, but it does have wildlife and all the things that come with it. Rabies shots or titers are essential. Bring a copy of your certificate or titers and email or text it to Megan-Megan@WildBlueDogs.org or (714) 390-8391.

Crates and X- Pens are also super important as this provides a safe place for you to leave your dog during meals and when they are resting between activities.

Nights can be chilly in Tahoe so bring a lightweight coat or T-shirt for your dog, or a small blanket to help them stay warm when we are outdoors at night or for chilly mornings or afternoons. The weather can be unpredictable.

Lake Tahoe is beautiful but it is cold and can be dangerous so if you plan to paddle board or kayak so be sure to bring a life vest for your best friend. Several excellent pet shops in town carry them, so if you don’t have one you can buy one. We will have life vests for human campers.

These shops also carry excellent food and treats, but be sure to bring what you regularly feed your dog. They will have enough excitement without changing their food up and creating tummy trouble.

And Now For The 2 Legged Campers:

Lake Tahoe is a very casual town so fancy clothing - even for the casinos - isn’t necessary. The daytime temperatures will be in the low 70’s - sunny, but the nights are chilly so be sure to bring a jacket or sweatshirt. Occasional thunder showers can happen too so something waterproof is a good idea.

You will be hiking on uneven trails and doing lots of walking (just getting from one end of the 4H Camp to the other is quite a walk) so be sure to bring feet-friendly shoes. The shores of Lake Tahoe are very rough sand and can easily abrade your feet, so some kind of footwear that can get wet but still protect your feet is a good idea.

The high altitude can cause very dry skin and in warm weather we have mosquitoes, gnats, and wasps so it is best to be prepared with repellant. We have placed wasp traps all around the 4H facility to help reduce their numbers but you are in a wilderness area with strict environmental protection regulations so they are a fact of life.

I am requesting refrigerators for all the hotel rooms, but you might want to consider bringing a small cooler if you need to keep raw dog food cold while at the 4H camp. Ice will be plentiful at both the hotel and the 4H camp. There will always be cold water, ice tea or lemonade available at the 4H to keep you refreshed and hydrated.
